on Nineteen Eighty-Four
A frighteningly relevant classic
I loved the story, the atmosphere, and especially the ideas behind it. The book contains some incredibly powerful and memorable lines, but what impressed me most was how relevant many of its themes still feel today. Despite being written decades ago, there are moments that can easily make you think about situations and behaviours that still exist in the modern world.
Some parts can feel slower than others, but nothing significantly affected my overall enjoyment of the book.
I absolutely loved 1984. The story was genuinely interesting, the world Orwell created fascinated me, and the book contains some incredibly powerful and memorable lines. What impressed me most, however, was how relevant it still feels. It was written decades ago, yet many of its ideas about power, information, language, surveillance, and the manipulation of reality can still make you think about situations in the modern world. That made the book feel much less distant than I expected from something written in the past. Beyond its ideas, I also genuinely enjoyed the story itself. It never felt like I was simply reading a book trying to communicate a political or philosophical message; I actually wanted to know what was going to happen. Overall, 1984 is a book I loved both for its story and for the ideas behind it. Its ability to remain relevant so many decades after it was written is probably what impressed me the most.
