A useful idea stretched into an entire book

The book presents some genuinely useful ideas about how habits are formed and how small changes can accumulate into meaningful results over time. The basic framework is simple, practical, and easy to understand, especially for someone who has never read much about habits or self-improvement.

My biggest problem was the repetition. I understood the main ideas relatively early, but the book kept returning to the same concepts again and again with slightly different explanations and examples. Eventually, I felt like I was reading just to finish the book rather than because I was still learning something new.

Atomic Habits isn’t a useless book. It has some genuinely good ideas, and I think its approach to building habits is simple enough to be understood and applied by almost anyone. My problem is that I understood what the book wanted to teach me relatively early. After that, it started to feel increasingly repetitive. The same fundamental ideas are explained, expanded upon, illustrated with another example, and then explained again in a slightly different way. At some point, I stopped feeling like I was discovering anything new. I already understood the message and the system the author was trying to communicate, so I found myself continuing mostly because I wanted to finish the book. I can understand why it is useful for someone completely new to the subject, and there are definitely lessons worth taking from it. Personally, though, I think the core ideas could have been communicated in a much shorter book. Useful, but unnecessarily repetitive.
