A simple story with an important message
The book communicates important ideas in a very simple and accessible way. It takes complex subjects such as power, manipulation, propaganda, and inequality and turns them into a story that is extremely easy to understand. I think it is the kind of book everyone should read at least once, simply because of the ideas it explores.
Compared with 1984, it felt much less powerful to me. The simplicity that makes the book so accessible also made it feel less deep and less impactful. I understood and appreciated what Orwell was trying to communicate, but it didn’t leave the same impression on me as 1984.
Animal Farm is a simple book, but it explains ideas that I think everyone should understand. Through a very straightforward story, Orwell explores power, manipulation, propaganda, inequality, and how ideals can gradually be corrupted. That’s probably the book’s greatest strength: you don’t need any complicated knowledge to understand what it is trying to say. The message is presented in a way that almost anyone can follow, which is why I think everyone should read it at least once. However, I found it noticeably weaker than 1984. It didn’t have the same depth or impact on me, and I wasn’t nearly as invested in its story or world. That doesn’t make it a bad book at all; I simply found 1984 much more powerful. Overall, I liked Animal Farm. It’s short, accessible, and communicates important ideas very effectively. It may not have impressed me as much as 1984, but I definitely think it’s worth reading.
